Hopefully this time I will be able to put some pics on here. I haven't checked yet but i see it being a problem as the computer is mainly in Arabic. Not quite sure how to read it yet!! ha
I will give a quick recap of the last few days and then try adding some pics.
We survived the 9 hour, turn 11 hour train ride into Luxor. We went to the train station to catch the train, and for some reason this country has seperate trains that foreigners must travel on, but the travel agent that arranged our ticket ended up getting us a 1st class Egyptian person ticket. We were told that we may get on the train and then get booted off, but it turned out in our favor. Everyone was very nice and didn't even say anthing to us about not being on it. I have to admit, i was worried it would be a shitty uncomfortable ride, but the seats were comfy, better than a plane, it was clean and we were served dinner. Well bun and cheese......
We ended up talking to a Austrailian/Egyptian girl on the train that owns a guesthouse here in luxor, and she talked us into staying. It didn't take much, she said they had imported mattresses, which had me sold after being on the train literally ALL night.
We got to our room, had a nap and headed to our first temple. We spent a couple hours at the luxor temple and then went back again in the evening as it was all lit up. It was very nice.
We headed to bed early, and actually had the best sleep of the week so far! I woke up with a cold though, so not so good. I forgot my cold-eze at home, which I am wishing I had. I found some halls today after a bit of searching so hopefully those will help.
Today we made our way to the valley of the Kings which are tombs that were carved into the mountain side. Very neat, some more impressive than others. I don't have pics of that as cameras weren't allowed. This afternoon we went on a felucca ride, which is a sail boat. It took us a bit up the Nile river and we watched a beautiful sunset on the boat.
Tonight we just finished supper at our guesthouse. They had a Barbee as the Aussies call it! Buffet style as Chris likes it! Very good food. Traditional Egyptian food. Salad with tomatoes, cucumbers onions, rice, pita bread, chicken, baba ganoog(?) not sure yet what it is, but its good! sorry Leanne, i know you wanted chris's take on food, but hes not writing tonight so my bland descritions will have to do!
Tomorrow we are deciding if we take the 18 hour bus ride to the ocean or stay another day. We might visit another tomb, we still have some decisions to make. We actually thought of changing our flights to go to Kenya early, as we are both hating the hassle by all the people here. Women get awful comments thrown at them, and the men are super aggresive trying to sell stuff from horse rides, to knick nacks. A simple NO doesn't cut it, they will chase you until you almost have to yell. Thats the downside to Egypt. And we both just don't like it.
Oh well, hopefully it will get better as we leave the touristy area.
OK off to post some pics, well try to anyways!
