In Baños now....

Since leaving Otavalo we haven´t done a whole lot. We left there early in the morning, and took a bus to Saquisili. They have a Thursday market there, mainly for locals. It was really neat to see everyone dressed in their traditional clothing. They had all sorts of things for sale. Meat, veggies, fruit, household goods. Women carrying around sheep and chickens. All the women wear fedora´s with peakcock feathers in them. It was strange to see a local woman in traditional dress sitting in an internet cafe, using the computer!
We were going to stay in that town for the night, but the one hotel we could find was all booked up so we were all out of luck. We decided just to head to the next closest town for the night. Latucunga. It was a bigger town, more like a city, so we were definately able to find a room. A rather nice one for our standards acually! It even had a phone! Not that we had anyone to call though!
This morning we wandered around the town for a bit. I got some fruit from the market for breakfast. A woman tried to sell me 5 strawberries for 50 cents and when i told her that was too much she slapped my arm. Another lady sold me about 15 for 50 cents!
So after we checked out of our room we hopped on another bus and came to the town we are at now. Baños it is called. So far we have been higher up in the mountains(2800m), but this town is a bit lower ( i think about 1800 m the books says) and it seems to feel a bit warmer. Tomorrow we are possibly heading to some hot springs, or doing the bike trip down the highway. You ride mountain bikes down the road, and there are supposidly 7?? or so waterfalls. Its also carnival and all the hotels are booked solid with locals and tourists, so it should make for an interesting weekend. We were told that we would most likely be sprayed with water guns and have flour thrown on us, and if I am correct that mixture makes glue. Excellent. I can´t wait! Kids have been carrying around water guns and water balloons and a can of spray foam for a couple days now!
oh yes, we also saw guinea pig being roasted on a grill today too, and another place it was roasting on a spit. Not too sure how I feel about eating it. They still had their teeth! bleh. Well, i suppose thats all for today, hopefully we will have some new adventures to tell you about next time I use the computer!
