Hanging out in Honduras!

Hey....
Things are good here. I´m nice and hot and getting a nice base tan!!! Am I making you jealous yet?
So after we checked our email at the last place, we ended up walking around town for a while, and coming across a big concert. We decided to check it out and turned out it was the opera. Very interesting....I can say I´m not an opera fan, but they had great voices. We stayed for a bit, and I was literally falling asleep while sitting at the opera so I had to get to bed. Chris stayed up for a bit and visited with the hotel owners, and I hit the pillow and didn´t wake up until 9:00 am. I had a great sleep, I was so tired, I needed it.
The next morning we had the lady make us breakfast, scrambled eggs with tomatoes and onion, and fresh homemade buns. Mom, if I closed my eyes, I could have sworn I was eating your buns. They were yummy!
We got on the bus, thinking we would have about 6 hours of busing before we got to the town in Honduras, but boy, were we wrong. We didn´t realize that 80% of our travels were through the mountains, and it was soooooo slow. We crossed the border into Honduras with no problems, had some more pupusas for lunch, hitchhiked to the bus station and caught another bus! a chicken bus of course, but, no chickens, just a lady with a baby parrot. It was cute!
About 7 hours later, we ended up in a town about 2 hours from where we wanted to go, and there happened to be no more buses. Unfortunately there wasn´t a huge option of hotels, so we grabbed one (it was bearable) and then headed out to find something for supper. It was about 7:30, and everything was closed, but we ended up walking and finding a totally local place, and had a really great supper. It was like a giant b-b-q.....
So, this morning we got up early, like 6 ish, and caught a 7 o clock bus that brought us to copanas ruinas, to anyone that is following a map! ITs a town in the mountains, so the streets are huge hills that are nearly killing me to walk up! Good exercise though!
This town is famous for the Mayan ruins, and has lots of touristy things to do. Chris had been told that the ruins weren´t worth seeing, but I took my chances and went on my own, but it was actually pretty neat. Big temple like stones, and lots of neat carving of faces and heiroglyphics......saw about 8 or 9 huge big red and blue and green colored macaws......for the rest of the day we just strolled around. Tomorrow we are planning a toury day. Heading to some hot springs in the morning, and then to a bird refuge type of places, where they rescue parrots and macaws and other types of birds and give them a safe place to live. It sounds like a good cause, so we´re going to head there. Macaw mountain its called. I believe there is also a coffee plantation there. We have arranged for a 3 hour horseback tour in the afternoon, not sure where it will take us yet, but it should be fun.
hmmm, what else can I tell you. Lots of cowboys here. 1/2 the men we see wear huge cowboy hats and big belt buckles.
Aunty Diane, lots of people selling things on the bus. We´ve gotten pineapples, watermelon, cucumbers, everything is so delicious. They sell everything on buses, even super glue. You never know when you might need some of that....
OH, there was the cutest kid at one of our bus stops. I was looking in peoples coolers for Coke Zero, and he saw me looking and asked what I wanted, I told him and he ran up and down the street shouting COKE ZERO, and finally found me one. He was so cute, so I gave him a quarter for helping me, (big deal, I know) and you should have seen his eyes light up and the smile on his face! He was totally our friend from that point on, and even ran to the bus and saved us 2 seats! he was selling HUGE bags of tomatoes on the bus for 25cents.....When he got off the bus, he made sure to say good bye to us and wave. he was pretty cute, about 10 years old....
Anyways, gotta go do some facebooking now!!!
I will let you know how tomorrows adventures go as soon as I can!
