We got to Munnar last night at about 6:00. Munnar is a very small town, not many tourists here. People come mostly to see the peaceful scenery around it. The town itself doesn't have much exciting.
They grow tea here. Loads and loads of tea. Everywhere you look there are tea plants, or bushes or whatever they are. It is definately cooler here. Its kind of funny actually. People are bundled up in touques, and heavy sweaters, and some even in parkas. I had to wear a sweater, but Chris was in shorts and a tee and he was comfortable! All the little kids are all bundled up. I wouldn't think it got lower than 14 degress celcius. It was really nice to be able to sleep comfortably, without a fan blowing on us all night.
Today we woke up and I had my first "bucket" shower! Hot water in a bucket and you pour it down your body.. hey, at least it was hot, and not as bad as it sounds! We caught a bus up the mountain to "top station". Its the top of the mountain where you can stroll around and sample tea that is grown out here. The ride was absolutely stunning. Everything is just so green, and there is tea growing in the hills everywhere. I've never seen tea growing before, it really is quite nice. We walked around a bit, and sampled some tea. Oh man, was it good. I am sitting here now wishing I had some more!
The last bus down the mountain was at 5:30, but at 2:00 we decided to walk a bit and then catch the bus as it was passing us. At about 5:00 some 2 Indian couples passed us (after walking about 7 kms- it was about 34 in total and saw us walking and offered us a ride, so we went with them. Imagine, almost like hitchhiking in India. Just kidding, it was all good. They were vacationing from Mumbai, high rollers I tell you. Staying in a fancy hotel. 1400 rupees. Our is 200! hahah (40rps=1$) It was interesting talking to them about the differences in cultures. They were about our age. Although they did like their Enrique whatever his last name is, they were really very nice!
Chris wanted to eat supper in a local food stall type of thing, so I sat with him while he ate his beef curry and chicken. I wasn't up for that, so when he was done we went and found me something in a restaurant. Its really quite funny when we go to eat. There are mainly local rest's here only, so when we order we notice that we are the only ones to get napkins and cutlery. everyone eats with their hands. Today I actually said "I shouldn't be rude, I should eat with my hands!" Only the right hand though, the left is reserved for bathroom duties! Try eating with only your right hand, not really as easy as it sounds!
With today being Sunday, everything closed early. I found a store and bought some tea and spices and homemade chocolate, as we are leaving again tomorrow. We're heaing to Thekkady. Its 110 kms from here. So that means another 5 hours in a bus. There is supposidly a national park with lots of animals, Chris was there 5 years ago, so hopefully we will spot something. We will leave in the afternoon. Tomorrow morning we're going to a park and renting a peddle boat for a while, and then maybe buy some more tea and spices.
Things I've forgotten to write, but keep thinking of.
-I am constantly getting stared at. Its getting rather sickening. Men are infatuated with my boobs. They stare and stare and stare. Even if I stare back. One man dropped his cigarette while tring to light it. Thats what happens when you stare at tourists boobs!
-Gas is the same price here as at home, maybe more. its about 43 rps/litre. That seems strange to me
-I miss my sunglasses
-There was more, but I can't remember.........
Well, I'm heading to bed now. Hopefully I will write again in 2 days. Maybe next time the computer won't be ancient and I will post some pictures! I hear the weather is getting nice at home, hopefully the snow is gone by march 25th!!!
