We left the island, and made our way back to La Ceiba. We decided to get a room there for the night and them 1st thing the next morning, Chris wanted to go white water rafting.
That evening we didn´t have much to do, since everything closed early as usual. We got on some tourist train thing that drove us around the city for an hour showing us some highlights. It was kind of nerdy, but all the kids that saw us on it were quite jealous! Lots of people thought it was ridiculous and had a good laugh, but we were laughing too! It was a truck or something, that they made look like a train and then it pulled a trailer with seats on it. It played horrible music, but it drove us along the ocean when the sun was setting ( thats one of the pics i posted the other day) and past the `rich`neighbourhood. Some huge beautiful houses there, just like back home.
The next day we got up early, and headed to the tour company, and Chris got in on a white water rafting tour. I decided I didn´t want to go, so I stayed in the city and walked around all morning. At one, I went to the tour company and got a ride out to meet Chris. The rafting was at a national park and the tour company had a ¨jungle lodge¨ where you get a free nights stay if you do a tour. We got a room for half price since I didn´t go on the tour. It was really pretty there. It was at the base of a national Park, Pico Bonito. Basically, a common area for everyone to hang out at, and basic rooms (the bed had a pillowtop mattress and was the most comfortable thing I have slept in since I left home!!). When I got there we swam in the freshwater pools, at the bottom of the mountain, and went for a hike in the mountains for a couple hours. It was really pretty. When we got back, they were making supper, so we ate with everyone else that was there, and visited with other travellers until bedtime.
We got up early the next day and headed back to La Ceiba to catch a bus to Sambo Creek, we heard there were good zip lines, and we were going to take a tour to an island.
We checked into our hotel, super clean, run by a local man who lived in the states for a few years and worked for cruise ships. His English was 100% perfect. Its nice to acually be able to ask someone questions with out having a blank look on my face cause I can´t understand what they are saying! Sambo Creek is a totally small little village on the ocean, about 3 hotels in total. Almost felt like we were in Jamaica. Looked like people were possibly descendants from there.....
We made our way to the zip lines in the afternoon. I still wasn´t sure if I wanted to do them or not, but once we got there I had convinced myself I better do it. Chris didn´t want to so he sat down by a pool and waited for me. I joined a group of about 15, all staying at a nearby resort. We took a horseback ride about 20 minutes up the mountain, and then zipped down! There were 16 lines in total, and one was one kilometer long. Really pretty scenery zipping through the jungle, and I wasn´t even scared! It was really fun actually, and would highly recommend it. I have a pic. i will have to post next time I am at a computer. There were som really pretty hot springs there too that I swam in too right after the zip, like a giant nautural hot tub. It was so nice.....
We walked back and had an early supper and headed to bed with plans to head to a nearby island Cayos Cochinos for some snorkeling. About midnight I woke up to heavy rain and wind, and then this morning the wind was blowing quite hard, and the waves on the ocean were incredibly huge. No Island for us. And sadly that was my last chance to snorkel. Oh well, we are back in La ceiba now, where we came to the mall head to the bank, use the internet and most importantly, get a good cup of coffee for me and a hamburguesa for Chris (he had a nice bacon cheeseburger and fries from Wendys for breakfast!)
We´re not 100% sure of our plans now, we have a couple options. Chris just headed to the bank and I can hear the rain just pouring down. Its a bit depressing acutally. We are going to either head to another beach town and hope the weather improves, or head to a lake we heard was really nice and stay there for a couple days before we head back to San Salvador to catch our flight home in 6 days or so......
