I was so hyped up on the music fair, and it was pretty poor.....................i was expecting much more. There was a guy playing a sitar......a stringed instrument from India. It was in this tall open air building with dirt floor, there were a few bats screeching and flyign around...........funny. There was also this local guy that came up and spoke in spanish asking people to stand for what i understood was the el salvadorian and also german national anthem. The Musician was from Germany as it did say international musicians for the great music festival. Well we stood for 4 songs that took 20 mins!
I still am confused, so funny there was a dog wandering around in the crowd? Who´d bring their dog into music concert......only in el salvadore would a dog not on a leash be alowed in!! oh well i like to travel to se things you wouldn´t see at home and dogs roaming and bats flyign over stage at a concert is things you wouldn´t see. I laughed as i saw this old guy in 60-70´s , grey hair pull flask out of his jacket pocket, then pass it around to his wife and couple they were sitting with.........how cool, old people smuggling in booze for the concert...that´ll be me and Laura in 30 yrs passin round a bottle.......eh Laura!
Music was good but hot and sweat just dripping of everyone...kinda gross then across the street was a neat bar with a bunch of revolutionary items and pictures of Cuba stuff. Looked touristy and fancy and I was turned off thinking it would be expensive.....then my goodness....when the bartender told us 2.00 for 2 ice cold beer....i coulda kissed him.....it truly made me really happy. Dave and I pounded a few beers there then ´flora de cana´rum from Nicaragau was only 1.00 for a cuba libre(a lot of connection to cuba in central america i never knew of) rum n coke , so had a round of them, at 2.00 per round i was happy to buy rounds.....very happy.
The bar had an outside courtyard and live music.......we stayed till I was quite tired....not drunk just tired as got up at 4:30 am to catch stupid delayed boat remember?.....anyways it felt like 2:00 or 3:00 am and i looked it was 11:15. This country always closes down so early it felt like middle of the night for once.....crazy went back to the guesthouse, most of them i stay at the owners go to bed at 8:30 pm ísh. Well the owners were up drinking with other guests passing around this homemade booze he had..I do like the place we are at....owners are so nice and we have such a beautiful view of a huge lake surounded by mountains on all sides. They only opened up in december, so chances are we may be the first canadians ever to stay there as hardly any tourists in this country......the bathroom plumbing isn´t quite finishd even
Don´t know if Laura would love as much as me......but i sure like it. There isn´t really a sink yet and gotta brush teeth with water from the shower, and toilet has broken lock on door so anyone can walk in while you ard sitting down....but really a person can deal with it. I went to bed as soon as got home and let them all party. Today the owners wife made awesome breaky of fresh buns, eggs, rice and beans, thick cream but tasted like sour cream, coffee and sugar cookies for 1.50, and when she told me the price she had this guilty puzzled look on her face kinda asking me with her eyes if that was too much i thought! I gladly paid her , told her it was delicious, as it was.
Dave and I walked down to the lake area, he took a ferry across, I milled around .
Funny, I saw this grandma, grandpa, daughter and 3 grandchildren fishing........well, the kids constantly kept getting lines snagged, he was cussing in spanish, then he got a kids line all wrapped around his leg, swore more, then the wind knocked over their sun umbrella, making him cuss and finally, one kid kicked over the tackle box sending everything flying in the sand ,s ome into the water........well he started to freak out then......the poor kid didn´t know if he should help clean up, or run away before he got a lickin'........I couldn´t help but snicker, and his wife looked back at me and she laughed too.....then he yelled at his wife for laughing and scowled over at me....Man, did i laugh......poor old guy , and they never caught a fish. The daughter and kids buggered off to swim leaving him to clean everything up poor guy! It was a nice lazy day in the park...of course all the park workers had guns........which I really don´t think was necessary.....would be like going to the forks or birds hill park and having armed staff everywhere? oh well , welcome to El Salvadore! I just watched from my bench in the shade till i was absolutely covered in tiny lil ants crawling all over my legs......so i moved then i had sweet meal.............breaded shrimp,8-10, rice, salad ,tortillas and can of coke zero for 3.50 . The shrimp were so good, oil dripping off them that iIsoaked into the rice slowly clogging my arteries and making me fat, but it sure tasted great!
The walk back would have been uphill, long and hot, so i simply waited at my table till a couple w-pickup was about to leave...........I walked up to the drivers window adn said SUCHITOTO POR FORVOR ESTA CALIENTE ES MUCHO TRABAJO PARA CAMENANDO....suchitot please it is hot and a lot of work to walk , well this is what i think my broken spanish was meant to say.......... anyways, the old man smiled and motioned for me to hop in the box of truck I rode up the hill, ironically passing Dave who was walking as i yelled out GRINGO to him laughing...When we stopped, I tapped side of truck box, i hopped out and offered him .50 and said PARA BEBIDA PARA ESPOSZA, meaning ´´for a drink for your wife´´ .....
Anways he smiled but refused to take it. I am enjoying hitchiking here actually. I just choose safe rides like old people or families and never with a group of males!
Well, we viewed a nice church and searched for old lady´s rolling cigars that my travel book spoke of, but were told to come back tomorrow. I can´t wait for my stomach to be hungry again so i can eat more seafoed.......then tonight will probably be a party at our hostal, as usual.
Tomorrow....back on the road for the oceanside . Yesterday was a long day of travel but E.S. is soo small we crossed 2-3´rds of the country
Hot Laura will be here soon, I am looking forward to it.. Well I think i´ll go walk in the park a bit, maybe buy some cheap watermelon or pineapple and it is so sweet here! My spanish is poor but i am thrilled that i can actually communicate with locals, they actually understand what i am crazy to say with my crazy gringo spanish...haha

Hi Chris - I think Hot Laura is getting pretty excited for the trip. Glad to hear you aren't sick of the rice and beans yet. I myself am making some 16 bean soup today. Ian and I are enjoying your stories - and your house looks great. Have fun and see if you can find some pina coloda's for us. leanne
